Peter Mohall (b. 1979, Löddeköpinge, Sweden) is educated at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Living and working on Nesodden, outside Oslo, he has exhibited extensively throughout Norway, Europe, the United States, and Japan. Among his solo exhibitions are presentations at Luce Gallery in Turin, Koki Arts in Tokyo, and Nino Mier Gallery in Los Angeles.

Mohall’s practice is rooted in an ongoing investigation of painting as a medium. His early works developed a distinctive visual language centred on the brushstroke itself as both motif and subject. Through cast and repeated brushstrokes, he challenged conventional ideas of originality, gesture, and artistic authorship, while exploring the relationship between the handmade and the mechanical. His work often occupies a space between conceptual inquiry and painterly tradition, drawing attention to the fundamental components and processes of painting.

In recent years, Mohall has moved towards a more figurative approach, depicting landscapes, gardens, coastal scenes, and everyday surroundings drawn from Scandinavian environments. While the imagery has shifted, his interest in the construction of painting remains central. The brushstroke continues to appear as a recurring element within the compositions, often functioning as a subtle reminder of the artist’s process and the material foundations of the work. Through this interplay between motif, material, and reflection on the nature of painting itself, Mohall has developed a practice that bridges art historical traditions and contemporary painterly concerns.
