Stranger Love #2

Silkscreen

The series "Stranger Love" consists of seven original silkscreen prints based on to collages on canvas from Christensen's exhibit "Stranger Love" at Gerhardsen Gerner in 2015. Fragmented composistions created from the artist's record collection - in itself a sort of visual resampling of prolific electronic music figures like Manuel Göttsching, Model 500/Juan Atkins, Underworld, Donna Summer, Stetsasonic, Neu, Sex Tags, Todd Terje, Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF), Washed Out, The Future Sound of London, LCD Soundsystem and so on. The album covers have been digitally reworked with serigraphic, analogue reproduction in mind. Christensen has then processed the motifs according to a self-imposed set of rules, printing them in different sequences, leaving out or duplicating some, and mixing the colors directly on the silkscreen for different results in every print. The manual nature of silkscreen printing is highlighted by the traces left by the tools throughout the process, and whereas a "classical" silkscreen print is a mass produced series of a specific motif in large quantities, Christensen wants every work to have the same starting point, but different outcomes. Thus he challenges a fundamental principle of the screen printing technique, while simultaneously emphasizing the painterly qualities of print production.
