Jan Christensen (b. 1977, Copenhagen) is a Norwegian visual artist whose works have been shown around the world. He is known for a series of appropriative murals made throughout the 2000’s, as well as text-based works and projects realized in painting, photography, and sculpture that frequently complicates and questions the societal frames and expectations surrounding art.
Christensen has had solo exhibitions at institutions like Kunsthaus Baselland, Basel; Artsonje Art Center, Seoul; Stenersenmuseet, Oslo; Galleri F15, Jeløya; Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, Kristiansand; Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst (S.M.A.K.), Ghent; Kubus Lenbachhaus og Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus und Kunstbau in München, along with multiple private galleries since 2001. His works are found in private collections internationally, as well as the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design and the Astrup Fearnly Museum in Oslo. Other exhibitions include Gerhardsen Gerner in Berlin and QB Gallery in 2018. He lives and works in Oslo and Berlin.
