Monolog

Pencil on paper, 55 drawings

Helene von Oldenburg's series Monolog is a graphic dialogue between the hand and the paper. The drawings were created in the spring of 2020, a period marked by the pandemic, fear, loneliness, and isolation. The artist used pencils and various types of paper she had at hand. What we see are drawn (or perhaps written) sheets featuring an unknown language, created through a psycho-mechanical process. They are hung both high and low on the wall, three-dimensionally united by the black threads in their fastening, presented as a complex riddle without a solution.
