Ich Werde Vergessen

Collaboration with snails, paper, water, honey and beer.

Helene von Oldenburg has an art education as well as a doctorate in agricultural science. This background is reflected in an intriguing way in the series Ich Werde Vergessen. The works are created with a mixture of honey, water, and beer that were used overnight to lure snails, especially slugs, onto pieces of paper – a collaboration between the artist and nature. On some of the works the artist wrote variations of the I-statements of forgetting: "I WILL FORGET" and "I WILL NOT FORGET". The works are a powerful and poetic statement over ageing, memories and what one want, and do not want to remember.
