Jon Benjamin Tallerås (b. 1984, Oslo) investigates the relationship between the individual and the urban environment. His work questions ownership through exploring different ways of navigating, seeing and exploring the ever-changing landscape of the city. In his works, Tallerås performs social readings of the city—questioning what is private versus what is public domain. Tallerås’ interpretations of the changing urban language can be applied to many rapidly growing cities in Europe and the world.
In the two works shown at the fair we see the artist in top of two buildings overlooking the city, an apparent reference to Caspar David Friedrich's iconic painting "The wanderer above the sea of fog" (1818). The buildings Tallerås is standing on are soon to be demolished, and the view will then only be for a selected few, who can afford one of the flats being built there.
Shown in the old rooms of Deichmann the works are hanging on each side of a window where one can look down at where the famous Y-blokka used to be; a modernist building that created a huge controversy and outrage when it was torn down a couple of years ago.
Tallerås is also part of the fair video art program.
