Christian Tunge (b. 1989) is a photographer and print–maker based in Oslo. He works across different techniques and materials, but is always concerned with the state of the photographic medium.

In his latest series Tunge was invited to private kinbaku sessions where individuals were intricately bound using ropes in the style of shibari—an art rooted in an ancient form of binding prisoners of war.

Over time, it has evolved into an intimate form of mediation and a type of bondage.

Tunge’s approach is playful and poetic as he makes images mixing multiple exposures and techniques. In the same way the rigger uses their rope to communicate, Tunge prints his works on large sheets of silk to share his experience from the sessions.
