Sverre Malling, (b. 1977, Skedsmokorset) made his debut at the Autumn Exhibition in 1995, only 17-years. He was a former student at Einar Granum Painting School from 1996-97, SHKS from 1997-2000 and has a bachelor's degree from the Statens Kunstakademi (2000 -04). Malling received the Weidemann Scholarship in 2009 and lived for almost a year at the late Jakob Weidemann's small farm in Oppegård, Ringsveen, where he ended his stay with the solo exhibition "Spirit Caravan" at Lillehammer Art Museum during the Literature Festival in 2009. Malling has also acted as curator in several exhibitions, including Sneakyville at Haugar Art Museum in 2016. His drawing ´Norwegian Muskox´ was part of the exhibition, a work which has gained iconic status in the Norwegian history of contemporary art. Malling is best known for his artisanal drawing qualities and richness of detail in shades of gray. Almost every inch of his work could have been a work of its own. He uses a traditional technique, but with motifs that revolve around our own time, and tries to fill established genres such as botany, fairy tales, occultism, folk art, psychedelics, classical art and fairy tales - with new content and let them circulate in new and updated contexts. Malling´s philosophy is concerned around the craft of cultivating a more lasting concentration, care and sensitivity to art. This by taking his time and reaching through the foundation of his practice, which helps to create focus in an otherwise fast-paced world.
Malling in included in large collections such as Kistefos Museum, The National Gallery, Astrup Fearnley Museum, The Bunker Museum (USA), Equinor Art Program, Bomuldsfabrikken, Haugar Art Museum in Vestfold, Sørlandets Kunstmuseum and Nord-Norsk Kunstmuseum.
